Lawrence Golan currently serves as the Music Director of the Yakima Symphony Orchestra (Washington), the York Symphony Orchestra (Pennsylvania), and the Lamont Symphony Orchestra & Opera Theatre at the University of Denver (Colorado). Additionally, he is the Music Director Laureate of the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra.

Lawrence Golan was the Grand Prize winner of the 2024 St. Cecilia International Music Competition in the United Kingdom and also received First Prize in four different categories, both as a conductor and composer. Furthermore, he has won the ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming of Contemporary Music 10 times, the Global Music Award 5 times, the American Prize 3 times, the Downbeat Magazine Award 3 times, and the Prestige Music Award 2 times. He was the Grand Prize winner of the American Prize in Orchestral Programming and the First Place winner of the Ictus International Music Competition.

His previous positions include Principal Guest Conductor of the Bayerische Philharmonie in Munich, Germany (2022–2024), Music Director of the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra (2013–2024), Resident Conductor of the Phoenix Symphony (2006–2010), Founder and Artistic Director of the Atlantic Chamber Orchestra (1998–2003), Music Director of the Portland Ballet Company (1997–2013), and Music Director of the Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra (1990–2001). Lawrence and his wife Cecilia, a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, have two young children.

Dates: July 7–13, 2025.

Participants must arrive in Granada on July 6 and depart on July 14.

Registration and Application Fee: A fee-free bank transfer of €100 must be made along with the registration form.

After reviewing the documentation of all interested participants, a total of 16 conductors will be selected to participate in the course. Upon receiving the invitation letter, they will have a two-week period to pay the remaining tuition fee (€800) via fee-free bank transfer.

Waiting List: A waiting list will be created in case any of the 16 selected participants withdraw.

Auditor Registration Fee: A fee-free bank transfer of €250 is required.

Registration Deadline for Auditors: July 1, 2025.

Scholarships: Valued at €150, scholarships are available for conductor participants who play a string instrument and participate as orchestra members during the course.

String Orchestra: The course will feature a string orchestra with a minimum composition of 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. A larger formation may be possible; however, this configuration is guaranteed.

Daily Classes:
8 daily sessions/rehearsals, each lasting 3 hours, from Monday to Sunday.

Mendelssohn: Violin Concerto in D minor, posthumous, 1822
Tchaikovsky: Serenade for Strings, Op. 48

Program 2 (Sunday, July 13)
Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 12 in A major, K. 414*
Dvořák: Serenade for Strings in E major, Op. 22

*Wind parts are optional and will be omitted. Please use standard scores; Bärenreiter edition is preferred.

A maximum of 16 participants will be accepted.


All participants will have equal opportunities. Eight conductors will perform in the first concert (with rehearsals on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday), and eight conductors will perform in the second concert (with rehearsals on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday).

Discussions on topics such as score study, programming, and professional development, among others, will take place during daily group lunches.

DAILY REHEARSALS: The course will include 8 daily rehearsal sessions, each lasting 3 hours, from Monday to Sunday.

MASTERCLASSES: Participants will have access as auditors to all instrumental masterclasses (violin, cello, and piano) of the Leonel Morales & Friends course.

FESTIVAL: Free entry to all concerts of the International Music Festival (concerts held every night).

CONCERTS: All course participants will conduct the *Leonel Morales & Friends* orchestra during the International Festival in top-tier concert halls.

SCHOLARSHIPS: Valued at €150, scholarships are available for conductor participants who play a string instrument and participate as orchestra members during the course.

SPECIAL ACCOMMODATION RATES: Special rates at **Hotel Alixares****, including full board buffet and swimming pool access exclusively for our participants and their families. Accommodation is not included in the course fee.

STUDY ROOMS: The course guarantees study spaces for conductors interested in practicing their instrument during the course.

CERTIFICATE: Participants will receive an official certificate accrediting their course hours.
