Lawrence Golan
Lawrence Golan currently serves as Music Director of the Yakima Symphony Orchestra (Washington), the York Symphony Orchestra (Pennsylvania), and the Lamont Symphony Orchestra and Opera Theatre at the University of Denver (Colorado). He is also Music Director Laureate of the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra.
Lawrence Golan was the Grand Prize winner of the 2024 St. Cecilia International Music Competition in the UK and also received First Prize in four different categories, both as a conductor and composer. He has won 10 ASCAP Awards for Innovative Programming of Contemporary Music, 5 Global Music Awards, 3 American Prize Awards, 3 Downbeat Magazine Awards, and 2 Prestige Music Awards. He was the Grand Prize winner of the American Prize for Orchestral Programming and the First Prize winner of the Ictus International Music Competition.
His previous positions include principal guest conductor of the Bayerische Philharmonie (Munich, Germany) (2022-2024), music director of the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra (2013-2024), resident conductor of the Phoenix Symphony (2006-2010), founder and artistic director of the Atlantic Chamber Orchestra (1998-2003), music director of the Portland Ballet Company (1997-2013) and music director of the Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra (1990-2001).
Dates: 7-14 July 2026.
Participants must arrive in Granada on July 6th and depart on July 15th, 2026.
Enrollment and Selection Process:
A maximum of 16 participants will be accepted, and all will participate equally. A total of 8 conductors will perform in the first concert and 8 conductors in the second concert.
Interested participants should submit up to three videos via YouTube links.
If accepted, the remaining course fee must be paid within two weeks of acceptance notification. If no response is received or the remaining fee is not transferred within this period, the place will be offered to the next candidate on the waiting list.
Application Fee: 100€ (by April 15) / 150€ (after April 15)
Tuition Fee: 990€.For the benefit of all, we recommend that registrations be made before April 15th, as in case of equal level or tie, participants will be admitted in strict order of registration.
Waiting List: A waiting list will be created in case any of the 16 selected participants are unable to attend.
Auditor Enrollment: Auditor registration includes the opportunity to attend all masterclasses offered in the courses organized by Leonel Morales & Friends, as well as admission to all concerts at the Festival.
Auditor Registration Deadline: July 1, 2026.
Auditors Enrollment: 300€.
String Orchestra: The course will feature a string orchestra with a minimum composition of 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
Podium time: Each participant receives 80 minutes of podium time plus one concert appearance.
Professional Recording: The course will offer all participants the opportunity to make a multi-camera professional recording of their performances. The price of this recording will vary depending on the number of participants, as the cost will be shared among them to offer a more affordable rate. Pre-selected participants will be informed in detail about the prices and technical specifications of the recording.

What does your Enrollment include
DAILY REHEARSALS/CLASSES: The course will consist of 8 three-hour class/rehearsal sessions every day. The orchestra will be present and available to the students.
MASTERCLASS: Access as an auditor to all instrumental masterclasses (violin, cello, and piano) of the Leonel Morales & Friends course, both for participants and their companions.
FESTIVAL: Free admission to all concerts of the International Music Festival (concerts every night).
CONCERTS: All course participants will conduct the Leonel Morales & Friends orchestra during the International Festival in top-tier concert halls.
DISCUSSIONS: In addition to classes, discussions on topics such as score study, programming, professional development, and others will be held during daily group lunches.
SPECIAL ACCOMMODATION RATES: Special rates at the Hotel Alixares**** with full board buffet and access to the pool exclusively for our participants and their families. Accommodation is not included in the tuition fee.
STUDY ROOMS: The course guarantees, upon prior reservation, study spaces for conductors interested in practicing their instrument during the course.
CERTIFICATE: Certificate accrediting the teaching hours of your participation.
ACCOMMODATION: The organizers have arranged special rates at the Hotel Alixares**** for participants, family members, and companions.
